Scientific Writing Seminar – Erlangen
7. December 2015 @ 9:00 - 9. December 2015 @ 12:15
This course offers students a practical guide to the process of writing a scientific paper in English. It studies features of academic writing such as formality, objectivity, precision and clarity and provides practical methods for improvement in these areas. A revision of key grammar points and some aspects of punctuation are also included.
The latter part of the course focuses specifically on the format of a paper and offers a guide to developing an abstract, introduction and discussion, including structure and key phrases.
Finally, there is an introduction to correspondence with the editor. This includes a general guide to written correspondence, diplomatic language and how to respond to reviewers‘ remarks.
Between sessions, participants have the opportunity to apply the theory to their own texts and will receive individual feedback which will help them to improve on their own personal weaknesses.
This Workshop is intended for members of the IRTG TRR130.
